Help! May 9, 2009

Updated May 10, 2009

Dear Journalists,

The situation in Venezuela has deteriorated beyond belief. Bloggers and other citizens are calling for help in a way I have never seen before.

The following links are highlights of some of Chavez's actions in the last few days:

Blogger Daniel Duquenal's recent articles explain the events that have taken place in Venezuela in the last few days:

Ambassor Adolfo Taylhardat wrote on his bi-weekly columm article Is the honeymoon over? referring to the Chavez/Obama relationship. Chavez relationship with the terrorist group FARC seems to impede further bilateral relations:

¿Se acabó la luna de miel?

European Parliament Calls Chavez to act to protect democratic rights

83. Expresses its concern at the human rights situation in Nicaragua and Venezuela and at the attacks against and harassment of a number of human rights organisations in those countries; calls on the Nicaraguan and Venezuelan governments and authorities to act to protect democratic rights and freedoms and the rule of law;

Movie Star Maria Conchita Alonso announced her new movie with tentative title "Courage" that will take Chavez's mask off explaining exactly what the infamous leader is doing. Please know that Ms. Alonso has been actively following the political situation in Venezuela for several years.

More about Chavez's infamous book gift to President Obama

As many journalists may know by now, immediately following the infamous Chavez's book gift to President Obama during the Summit of the America's 2009, there were e-mails circulating explaining that the book's controversial statements were proven wrong by another book written by experts.

Attached below please find link to article written by Author Alvaro Vargas Llosa, Senior Fellow and Director, Center on Global Prosperity, Washington, DC responding to calls from journalists concerning the book Las venas abiertas de America Latina gift from Chavez.

Mr. Vargas Llosa explains that the co-authors of the book assure that the Manual of the Perfect Idiot proves wrong all the historic disinformation and ideologies presented in the infamous book gift from Chavez.

«El manual del perfecto idiota latinoamericano» dedicamos un capítulo a refutar las falacias históricas e ideológicas contenidas en la obra de Galeano, la «biblia del idiota.»

UPDATED: Earthquake 5.4 Richter Scale hits Caracas Today

Updated May 9, 2009

The following message is circulating the Internet:

Globovision has been served papers by CONATEL (the telecom regulator). They were told this could lead to 72 hr. suspension of operations and perhaps even indefinite closing. The reason being that Globovision acknowledged that there had been an earthquake and announced it over the air before the government had a chance to do so. Globovision's General Manager Alberto Federico General managerRavell states that Globovision tried its best to find out what the government broadcasters had to say and there was no response. VTV had a prerecorded program with Chavez on it running. The website of the Venezuelan seismic agency showed nothing. After a reasonable time, they decided to go to the U.S. Geological Survey website, which had already posted the figures for the seismic event. Only after Globovision broadcast the facts did the government entities respond (they obviously copied Globovision's information. Ravell says he will fight back in the national and international courts.

Venezuelans were awaken in the middle of the night to a 5.4 Richter scale earthquake. Witnesses report that everyone was very scared, but there were no fatalities.

Nirvana, El Cielo, ou l’Utopie?

Nirvana, El Cielo, ou l’Utopie?

When someone gives a nice gift as appreciation for new friendship like an island as an environmental protection area off the shore on New Jersey as Chavez has given the United States of America, one must be grateful. One should be also hopeful of new and refreshed bilateral relations.

Venezuela gives the US an island owned by Citgo

But, then you learn that Chavez is himself at home abusing those he can abuse like unarmed citizens, women, and the elderly as shown on this video taken on May 1, 2009. What do you do?

Similarly, if you have a mean neighbor who brings you a huge executive gift basket as a sign of friendship, but later you hear his family screaming in anger and pain. The neighbor had just physically abused his family. What do you do with the gift basket?
