Venezuela's Political Disaster - April 27, 2007
The daily newspaper El Universal reports in the attached link that "Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is to file a legal suit with the Inter-American Court on Human Rights against the Venezuelan State for "violations of freedom of expression, personal integrity, judicial guarantees and judicial protection of workers and reporters with (private television station RCTV)."

Ambassador Adolfo Taylhardat suggested on Globovision.com that IACHR should ask Chavez to suspend the closure of RCTV until a resolution to this case is found.

Chavez's announced threat of closing of Radio Caracas Television (RCTV) has Venezuelans very upset. There are reports that 70% of citizens want RCTV to remain open.

As a typical abusive response, Chavez immediately reacted blaming the victim and accusing everyone but himself "The least I can tell this Commission is "go to hell". They cannot claim the moral high ground, and I do not mean all of its members, but some. I mean the members that belong to the powerful class that wants to destabilize the country. Chávez claimed that freedom of expression is fully respected in Venezuela, to the extent that some people have offended his own mother on some television stations."
(hmmm all I have seen are pictures of his mother with her nouveau rich look)
