Chavez's Madness

Update:

Facebook Posting: Venezuelan Blogger Arrested
http://maruangaritablog2.blogspot.com/2009/08/facebook-posting-venezuelan-blogger.html

The following message has been posted on Facebook reporting that a Venezuelan blogger has been arrested. I have not heard of this blogger, but what in the world is Chavez doing?

Hugo Chavez in his own madness to stop those who disagree with his hatred message continues the abuse against freedom of speech. On this date Chavez proceeded to shut down 34 radio stations basing his actions on many issues including not paying taxes, but the main reason seems to be politically motivated.

The following link is to a press bulletin from the Venezuelan chamber of radio stations (do not know the correct translation). The press bulletin expresses outrage for the closing of the radio stations without proper notification, and throwing many individuals into unemployment, and accuses Chavez of political motivation against the radio broadcasters.

Statement from Chavez’s new law:

Under Article 5 of the draft Special Law against Media Crimes, which will be submitted on Thursday by Attorney General Luisa Ortega Díaz for the consideration of the National Assembly, "Any person who discloses false news through a mass media outlet, causing serious disruption to public tranquility, panic or anxiety in the population, disruption of public order or a prejudice to the interests of the State, shall be punished with imprisonment from two to four years."

It is amazing that perhaps the new law against freedom of speech may be applicable to Chavez directly by adding that any person who creates serious disruption to public tranquility, panic or anxiety in the population, disruption of public order or a prejudice to the interests of the State, shall be punished with imprisonment from two to four years. Chavez seems guilty of allegedly causing major anguish and despair to Venezuelan citizens by his abusive hatred messages through this weekly monologue to the nation lasting hours at a time.

Venezuelans need help to restore democracy in the abused nations.

Circo en Las Manos by Adolfo R. Taylhardat

Venezuela's Assault on Freedom of the Press and Other Liberties - Cato Institute

New controversy ... at least for me!

Freedom of the press must be respected completely with no questions asked. However, animal rights abuses must be prosecuted to the fullest. So, is Chavez concerned about freedom of speech or animal right abuses?

Dozens of radio stations shut down in Venezuela http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/08/01/venezuela.radio.stations/index.html

CNN reports that "A few hours before, the government raided the home of Globovision President Guillermo Zuloaga, an avid hunter, to see whether he had killed any protected animals. It was the second raid on Zuloaga's home in two weeks."

The following press release is from the Cato Institute in Washington, DC:

http://www.cato.org/pressroom.php?display=ncomments&id=257

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

Ian Vásquez, director, Center for Global Liberty and Prosperityivasquez@cato.org:

A Venezuelan court has prohibited Guillermo Zuloaga, president of Globovision Television, from traveling to Washington, D.C. where he was scheduled to deliver an address tomorrow at the Cato Institute. Zuloaga and his network have been openly critical of the Hugo Chavez government, and as a result have endured harassment from authorities as Chavez attempts to place television and radio networks under government control or shutter them completely.

As a result, the Cato forum will now feature the vice-president of Globovision TV, Carlos Alberto Zuloaga, and Rafael Alfonzo, president of CEDICE, Venezuela's leading market-liberal think tank, with comment by Robert Rivard, of the Inter American Press Association. Mr. Alfonzo will discuss how CEDICE and other members of civil society are coming under increasingly serious government harassment for expressing views critical of the government.

The White House’s Latin Connection

Updated

The White House’s Latin Connection
Is Greg Craig driving U.S. Latin America policy?
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203609204574312363465346516.html

I have been very upset all day after reading Mary Anastasia O'Grady's opinion article "The White House's Latin Connection" on the Wall Street Journal on this date. Ms. O'Grady who has extensive knowledge of the situation in Venezuela explains that President Obama seems to be following disinformed advise from one of his counsel:

"Some Washington watchers figure this bizarre stance is due to the fact that Mr. Obama is relying heavily on White House Counsel Gregory Craig for advice on Latin America."
Ms. O'Grady explains that:

Having established that making nice with the region’s troublemakers is a priority, Mr. Obama now wants Mr. Zelaya—who was endorsed by the FARC last week—reinstated. If Honduras does not comply, the U.S. is threatening to freeze assets and revoke the visas of interim government officials.

The following article written by Daniel Duquenal explains some of the issues taking place in Honduras.

Patricia Rodas: the woman who married Zelaya to Chavez?
http://www.daniel-venezuela.blogspot.com/

I wonder if President Obama has read my e-mails to the White House, and those of other concerned individuals, or have our e-mails been intercepted by counsels! What ever the situation is I urge the press to please inform the general public of the situation in Venezuela and Honduras where infamous Chavez seems to be in control.

Ambassador Adolfo Taylhardat wrote on his opinion column that Chavez's interference in Honduras is evident, increasing and appalling:

La escalada del intervencionismo chavista en Honduras
