Update: Venezuela's Political Disaster - May 26, 2007
Dear Journalists,
Venezuelan citizens continue to march protesting the closing of Radio Caracas Television as reported by television network Globovision in the next link:
http://www.globovision.com/news.php?nid=56716 Please know that Venezuelans can not defend themselves. Recent elections and recall referendum have been allegedly corrupted since the e-voting machine company Smartmatic is allegedly owned by Chavez and his thugs.
Venezuelan citizens do not have weapons and are out powered by expensive artillery that Chavez has bought recently.
This evening and Sunday evening at 10:00 PM Venezuelan opposition will sound alarms in protest of the closing of RCTV.
Venezuelans have been protesting with passion marching which is the only defense they have. However, Venezuelans are helpless hostages of Chavez. Chavez does not obey international agreements, and has literally destroyed Venezuela's previous democratic constitution.
Venezuelans are hostages of a deranged dictator. Attached below please find reports about the events that had taken place in the last hours concerning the announced closing of Radio Caracas Television (RCTV).
Chavez's supporters attacked television network Globovision destroying equipment and other abuses:
Please know that the Venezuelan opposition is organizing a number of street actions to counter the government decision not to renew a broadcast license for Radio Caracas Television (RCTV) as reported by www.eluniversal.com.
I will be following the events through out the long weekend, and adding updates to my blog as needed. I may only send one e-mail a day to the distribution lists.
Today university students protested in the streets the announced closing of Radio Caracas Television (RCTV):
http://www.globovision.com/index.php Venezuelans are hostages of an infamous dictator. All your cooperation to help Venezuelans restore democracy will be greatly appreciated.
Venezuelans banged pots and pans (cacelorazo) in many cities at 8:00 PM this evening protesting the announced closure of Radio Caracas Television (RCTV).
At the same time, Chavez sized all television networks and radio stations to blast all the support that Venezuelans are getting to stop the closure of RCTV.
In other outgeous matters, the following link is to article written by Editor Teodoro Petkoff "La Canallada" originally published in his own newspaper Tal Cual, and reprinted in Venezuela Real and which is circulating widely in the Internet:
http://venezuelareal.zoomblog.com/archivo/2007/05/22/canallada.html It seems that Venezuela's Secretary of State Nicolas Maduro, former Metro Bus driver nominated by Chavez to this high and previously prestigious post allegedly did not issue a passport to former President Carlos Andrés Pérez and First Lady Doña Blanca's daughter Carolina Pérez Rodríguez. Ms. Pérez Rodríguez is receiving cancer treatment in the United States and her passport had expired. Thus, the former First Lady asked for help and visited Venezuela's State Department (La Casa Amarilla) to have her daughter's passport renewed. However, the former First Lady and her daughter who is blind because of cancer were made to wait over eight hours, and at the end of the day the passport was not issued.
The time to help Venezuelans has come! All your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.
Attached below please find link to open letter addressed to José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States from the Human Rights Foundation concerning his lack of action and support concerning Chavez's closing of Radio Caracas Television (RCTV). http://www.humanrightsfoundation.org/es/InsulzaCartaMayo07.pdf
The above letter reminds Mr. Insulza of his promise to protect democracy and other matters directly linked with the illegal closing of RCTV.
Breaking News US Senate to pass resolution for freedom of expression and RCTV http://english.eluniversal.com/2007/05/23/en_pol_art_us-senate-to-pass-re_23A873321.shtml Resolved, That the Senate (1) expresses its profound concern about the transgression against freedom of thought and expression that is being attempted and committed in Venezuela by the refusal of the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, to renew the concession of the television station ''Radio Caracas Televisión'' (RCTV) merely because of its adherence to an editorial and informational stance distinct from the thinking of the Government of Venezuela; and(2) strongly encourages the Organization of American States to respond appropriately, with full consideration of the necessary institutional instruments, to such transgression. The next link if to article Exportación de la "revolución bolivariana" written by Ambassador Adolfo Taylhardat explaining how the Latin American media is handling Chavez's infamous wrath.
Outraged about the current political situation in Venezuela please accept the following comments concerning the Reuters' article "Venezuelans protest opposition TV channel closure" linked below:
http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSN1923370120070519 It seems that besides Chavez's main whim vindication to shut down Radio Caracas Television (RCTV) for reporting the truth, Chavez does not like soap operas. "Chavez has vowed not to renew RCTV's broadcast license when it expires on May 27. It will be replaced by a state channel showing programs that promote the values of Chavez's self-styled leftist revolution. He accuses RCTV's saucy soap operas of spreading immorality."
Maybe the infamous leader can not think beyond his stubbornness. I personally can not stand soap operas. I do not watch them, and at home my family watches different shows and soap operas are just ignored. But, that is our personal choice and freedom to do so.
Perhaps Chavez can have the Venezuelan equivalent of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to have dedicated soap opera channel(s), so who ever wants to watch those shows can do so and censure the channel(s) if needed. I would not like to have children watching steamy shows on TV soft porn style.
The above mentioned possibility could be an alternative to shut down a beloved television network, and the blow against human rights.
Update 2: Venezuela's Political Disaster of May 19, 2007
Dear Journalists,
Attached below please find link to pictures of the march protesting the closure of Radio Caracas Television (RCTV). One of the posters reads Regime Chavista Teme Verdades, that is the Chavez regime fears the truth.
I just would like to make people aware of issues that need to be taken care of to improve and enhance our lives
